Event Challenge: Transforming a non-event venue into an event ready space.

SETLC is a world-class, state of the art, premier tennis facility located in Washington, DC. The center provides youth in the district with tennis instruction, tutoring, life skills, educational and personal reinforcement. 

When one thinks of an event space, they don’t immediately think of tennis courts. But RJ Whyte transformed 6 state of the art interior hard courts into a gala for 770 people. It required that we bring in flooring, power, and lighting as well as completely build out a stage set and catering area. Managing the logistics of each vendor was also pertinent to the event’s success. Through check in meetings with all vendors and even government officials, we were able to plan for success. 

Transformation of the event started a full five days prior with the set-up of flooring, drape, stages, and generators. Thursday and Friday were full vendor load in days. Each vendor had a specific window of time for their load in because SETLC’s loading dock can only fit one truck at a time. Once load in was complete each vendor could begin their specific tasks for the event. 

The space had to be show ready by 4 p.m. on the day of the event. While it proved to be a whirlwind of a week it all turned out beautifully. We could not have transformed the courts without the help of our amazing vendor team!
